Lesson 3: Addition of Two-Digit Numbers (No Regrouping)

For Grade 3 Mathematics

Lesson Objective:

Students will be able to add two-digit numbers without regrouping. This lesson reinforces the basic concepts of addition by correctly using the tens and ones place values.

Understanding Addition without Regrouping:

When adding two-digit numbers, we first add the digits in the ones place. Then, we add the digits in the tens place. 'Without regrouping' means that the sum of the ones place is not greater than 9.

Example: 23 + 14

  • First, add the ones place: $3 + 4 = 7$
  • Second, add the tens place: $2 + 1 = 3$
  • Answer: 37
23 + 14
37

This method makes adding numbers easy.
