Lesson 7: Division - 1 - Let's learn to divide!

For Grade 4 Students (Ages 9-10) - Let's learn basic division and solve problems!

What we will learn today:

In this lesson, you will learn to:

  • Understand division as **sharing equally** or **repeated subtraction**.
  • Divide **two-digit numbers by single-digit numbers** with no remainder.
  • Solve **word problems** involving division.

What is Division?

Division is splitting a number into equal parts. It tells us how many groups there are or how many are in each group.

Example:

You have 12 cookies and want to share them equally among 3 friends.

Each friend gets $12 \div 3 = 4$ cookies.

Activity 1: Basic Division!

Divide the numbers and enter the answer.

÷

Activity 2: Two-Digit by Single-Digit Division!

Divide the numbers and enter the answer.

Exercises: Divide the Numbers

1. $24 \div 4 = $

2. $35 \div 5 = $

3. $42 \div 6 = $

4. $56 \div 7 = $

5. $81 \div 9 = $

6. $60 \div 10 = $

7. $72 \div 8 = $

8. $90 \div 9 = $

Word Problems: Solve by Dividing

  1. You have 20 candies to share equally among 4 friends. How many candies does each friend get?
  2. A class has 30 students, and they need to form groups of 5. How many groups can they form?
  3. A gardener has 48 flowers to plant in 6 rows. If each row has the same number of flowers, how many flowers are in each row?
