For Grade 4 Students (Ages 9-10) - Let's learn to count, add, and subtract money!

What we will learn today:

In this lesson, you will learn to:

  • Identify different **denominations of currency** (notes and coins).
  • **Count money** in various combinations.
  • **Add and subtract money** amounts.
  • Solve **word problems** involving money.

Identifying Money:

Money comes in different forms: coins and notes. In Sri Lanka, we use Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR).

Example:

Coins: Rs. 1, Rs. 2, Rs. 5, Rs. 10

Notes: Rs. 20, Rs. 50, Rs. 100, Rs. 500, Rs. 1000, Rs. 5000

Activity 1: Count the Money!

Count the total amount of money shown and enter the answer.

Activity 2: Add Money Amounts!

Add the two money amounts and enter the total.

Rs. + Rs. = Rs.

Activity 3: Subtract Money Amounts!

Subtract the money amounts and enter the difference.

1. Rs. 50 + Rs. 25 = Rs.

2. Rs. 100 - Rs. 40 = Rs.

3. Count: Two Rs. 20 notes and three Rs. 5 coins. Total Rs.

4. Count: One Rs. 500 note and four Rs. 10 coins. Total Rs.

Word Problems: Solve using Money

  1. You have Rs. 75. You buy a pen for Rs. 30. How much money do you have left?
  2. Your mother gives you Rs. 150, and your father gives you Rs. 80. How much money do you have in total?
