Lesson 7: Multiplication

For Grade 3 Mathematics

Lesson Objective:

Students will be able to understand multiplication as repeated addition, recall basic multiplication facts, and solve simple multiplication word problems.

Understanding Multiplication:

Multiplication is a quick way to do repeated addition. For example, if you have 3 groups of 4 apples, you can add $4 + 4 + 4$, or you can multiply $3 \times 4$. The symbol '$\times$' means "times" or "multiplied by".

Example: $3 \times 4$

  • This means 3 groups of 4.
  • As repeated addition: $4 + 4 + 4 = 12$
  • So, $3 \times 4 = 12$
