Lesson 5: Number Patterns - Let's identify patterns!

For Grade 4 Students (Ages 9-10) - Let's learn to identify and complete number patterns!

What we will learn today:

In this lesson, you will learn to:

  • Identify what **number patterns** are.
  • Identify and complete **increasing patterns** (addition patterns).
  • Identify and complete **decreasing patterns** (subtraction patterns).
  • Find the **rule** of a pattern.

What are Number Patterns?

A number pattern is a sequence of numbers arranged according to a specific rule. This rule can involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.

Example:

2, 4, 6, 8, ... (Rule: Add 2 to each number)

10, 9, 8, 7, ... (Rule: Subtract 1 from each number)

Activity 1: Complete Increasing Patterns!

Identify the pattern and enter the next two numbers.

...

Activity 2: Complete Decreasing Patterns!

Identify the pattern and enter the next two numbers.

...

Activity 3: Find the Rule of the Pattern!

Observe the pattern and enter its rule (e.g., +5, -3).

Exercises: Complete the Patterns

1. 5, 10, 15, ,

2. 20, 18, 16, ,

3. 3, 6, 9, ,

4. 50, 45, 40, ,

5. 100, 110, 120, ,

6. 70, 63, 56, ,

You're doing great!
